Native to China, Japan and Korea its roots are harvested in autumn and have been used as traditional medicine for thousands of years. Don Quai is a member of the Apiaceae family which includes Fennel, Anise and Celery. The Chinese phrase "Dong Quai" translates to "state of return". According to an ancient
