500' elevation in the alkaline forests of western Guangxi and southern Guizhou

the patches are further highlighted by 1' tall panicles of small white flowers

Thymus neiceffii Bommeria topped starting late April (NC)(aka: Thymus leucotrichus subsp. neiceffii) Unlike most perennial thyme species, this Balkan endemic is actually a woody subshrub. Thymus neiceffii forms a slow spreading 2" tall carpet of hairy, glaucous green foliage that looks quite juniper like, but without the spines. We treasure this in our crevice garden, where it has thrived since 2021. The patch is topped with a lovely show of mauvy lavender flowers in May.
