In April (NC), Epimedium 'Frohnleiten' boasts superbly red mottled, newly emerging, heart shaped, green leaves. The clumps are topped with panicles of large butter yellow flowers a great woodland specimen. Epimedium 'Frohnleiten' is a spreading fairy wing (6 8" per year), whose foliage remains evergreen from Zone 6
