This medal can be professionally court mounted or swing mounted

the medal was awarded to eligible British and Imperial personnel who served in a recognised theatre of war between 5 August 1914 and 31 December 1915

A silver bar ornamented by an eagle may be issued to AFC holders performing a further act of such gallantry which would have merited award of the AFC

replacement

and a bar is awarded for each subsequent period of 1080 days

Insitutued in 1854 this medal continued with the same young head of Queen Victoria on the obverse for 41 years. A total of 24 four clasps were issued to this medal and the maximum number of clasps know to one medal is seven. Originally issued in silver to all ranks, it was awarded in bronze from 1885 to native support personnel such as bearers, sweepers and drivers.
